EST Elite: NFL Power Rankings – Week 5

Five weeks into the 2026 NFL season, the contenders are beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the league. Week 5 delivered statement victories, surprising blowouts, and one of the most entertaining Monday Night Football games of the season.

The San Francisco 49ers remain at the top after surviving a thrilling divisional battle against Seattle, while the Buffalo Bills move into the top three following their dramatic overtime victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Meanwhile, the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos make their first appearances in the EST Elite rankings.

As always, these rankings aren’t determined solely by win-loss records. They reflect overall team quality, recent performances, consistency, and, most importantly, which teams we believe would beat the others if they played today.

Here are this week’s EST Elite Top 10 NFL teams.

1. San Francisco 49ers (↔)

The San Francisco 49ers remain the number one team in the EST Elite rankings following their thrilling 32–29 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

This was exactly the type of contest that separates championship contenders from the rest of the league.

Facing a talented divisional opponent, San Francisco was pushed throughout the game but ultimately found a way to emerge victorious. The 49ers demonstrated offensive firepower, resilience, and the ability to execute under pressure.

Their victory carries additional significance because Seattle entered the weekend ranked third in our rankings. Beating another elite opponent only strengthens San Francisco’s claim to the top position.

There are certainly areas for improvement, particularly defensively after allowing 29 points, but no team is perfect. What matters is whether a team can overcome its weaknesses and still win against quality opposition.

San Francisco continues to answer that question.

Until someone proves otherwise, the 49ers remain the team to beat.

2. Kansas City Chiefs (↔)

The Kansas City Chiefs remain second in this week’s EST Elite rankings after enjoying their bye week. With Kansas City not playing this weekend, there is no reason to move them up or down. Nothing has changed in our assessment of the Chiefs, and they retain their position as the second-best team in football. Kansas City will have an opportunity to strengthen its case when it returns to action next week.

3. Buffalo Bills (↑ 1)

The Buffalo Bills climb into the top three following an extraordinary 37–34 overtime victory against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football.

This was arguably the most entertaining game of the NFL season so far.

Josh Allen once again demonstrated why he belongs among the league’s elite quarterbacks, making crucial plays with both his arm and his legs. Buffalo faced significant adversity throughout the contest, but Allen and the offense repeatedly found ways to respond.

The Bills appeared to be in serious trouble during overtime, but a blocked Rams field goal provided another opportunity. Allen capitalized, helping Buffalo move into position for the game-winning kick.

Buffalo’s defense certainly has areas that need improvement after surrendering 34 points, but the Bills possess something that cannot be overlooked: a quarterback capable of winning games even when everything around him isn’t functioning perfectly.

After last week’s drop, Buffalo responds by moving back into the top three.

4. Seattle Seahawks (↓ 1)

The Seattle Seahawks drop one position following their heartbreaking 32–29 defeat against the San Francisco 49ers.

Despite the loss, Seattle demonstrated why it remains one of the best teams in football. The Seahawks went toe-to-toe with the top-ranked team in our rankings and came agonizingly close to securing a massive divisional victory.

The offensive production was impressive, and Seattle showed tremendous fight throughout a contest that featured momentum swings and outstanding individual performances.

However, the difference between great teams and championship teams often comes down to execution in crucial moments. San Francisco made the necessary plays to escape with the victory, while Seattle was left wondering what could have been.

Dropping one position is not an indictment of the Seahawks. They remain a legitimate contender, and another meeting with San Francisco could easily produce a different outcome.

5. Minnesota Vikings (↔)

The Minnesota Vikings remain fifth following a convincing 23–13 victory over the New Orleans Saints.

Minnesota continues to win football games, and its undefeated start is becoming increasingly difficult to overlook. Brian Flores has constructed a defense that consistently creates problems for opposing offenses, and the Vikings demonstrated that ability once again against New Orleans.

The defense controlled much of the contest, preventing the Saints from establishing the offensive consistency necessary to threaten Minnesota.

While the Vikings remain undefeated, the teams above them have demonstrated enough quality to justify their positions. Nevertheless, Minnesota is firmly establishing itself as one of the NFC’s most dangerous teams.

At some point, continued victories will force an even bigger conversation about just how high the Vikings belong.

6. Jacksonville Jaguars (↑ 1)

The Jacksonville Jaguars continue their climb following a hard-fought 19–17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in London.

Jacksonville has become one of the more intriguing teams in the NFL. The Jaguars have demonstrated an ability to compete in difficult situations, and their latest victory reinforces the belief that this team is capable of making some noise in the AFC.

Parker Washington was particularly impressive, finishing with 124 receiving yards and two touchdowns. His performance provided Jacksonville with the explosive plays necessary to overcome Philadelphia.

Not every victory needs to be pretty. Good teams find ways to win when things aren’t going perfectly, and Jacksonville did exactly that.

The Jaguars move up to sixth, and another strong performance could put them in contention for a top-five position.

7. Baltimore Ravens (↑ 1)

The Baltimore Ravens climb one position after defeating the Atlanta Falcons 30–23 in overtime.

This was far from a straightforward victory. Baltimore found itself needing a late comeback, but backup quarterback Tyler Huntley delivered when his team needed him most.

Derrick Henry played an instrumental role in the comeback, including a direct-snap conversion that helped bring the Ravens level. Huntley eventually delivered the winning touchdown on a quarterback sneak in overtime, completing an impressive turnaround.

The Ravens deserve credit for their resilience, particularly while navigating uncertainty at quarterback. However, needing overtime to defeat Atlanta also demonstrates why Baltimore remains outside the top five.

The talent is certainly there. The question is whether the Ravens can put together complete performances rather than relying on late-game heroics.

8. Chicago Bears (↓ 2)

The Chicago Bears suffer a significant setback following an embarrassing 31–7 defeat against the Green Bay Packers.

Chicago entered the weekend ranked sixth, but its performance against a divisional rival raised serious questions. The offense struggled to establish any meaningful rhythm, while the defense was unable to prevent Green Bay from controlling the game.

One poor performance shouldn’t erase everything a team has accomplished, which is why Chicago remains inside the Top 10. However, the Bears cannot afford many more outings like this if they expect to be considered legitimate contenders.

Chicago has shown enough potential to remain in the conversation, but this was a reality check.

9. New England Patriots (NEW)

The New England Patriots make their EST Elite debut after absolutely dismantling the Las Vegas Raiders 45–17.

This was more than simply another victory. New England dominated a Raiders team that occupied the tenth position in last week’s rankings, making a convincing argument that the Patriots deserve to take their place.

Scoring 45 points against an opponent that had shown promise earlier in the season is an impressive achievement. The Patriots have demonstrated that they can be dangerous offensively while remaining competitive on the defensive side of the football.

The question now is whether New England can maintain this level of performance against stronger opposition. For now, the Patriots have earned their spot.

10. Denver Broncos (NEW)

The Denver Broncos enter the EST Elite rankings following an impressive 23–17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Denver has built its identity around a physical defense capable of keeping opponents uncomfortable and making every possession difficult.

Bo Nix and the offense still have room to improve, particularly when it comes to consistently putting points on the board, but Denver has demonstrated that it can win games without needing an offensive explosion. The Broncos deserve recognition for their ability to compete in close contests and make the necessary plays when it matters.

If the offense becomes more consistent, Denver could climb these rankings quickly.

Teams Dropping Out

Los Angeles Rams (Previously No. 9)

The Rams fall out of the rankings following their 37–34 overtime defeat against Buffalo. Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua delivered outstanding performances, and Los Angeles came remarkably close to winning. However, with other teams securing important victories, the Rams narrowly miss out this week.

Las Vegas Raiders (Previously No. 10)

The Raiders drop out following a disastrous 45–17 defeat against New England. Losing is one thing, but being thoroughly outplayed by a team competing for a place in these rankings is another. Las Vegas must respond quickly if it hopes to return to the EST Elite Top 10.

Final Thoughts

Week 5 reinforced just how competitive the NFL has become.

San Francisco continues to lead the way, but Kansas City and Buffalo remain firmly in pursuit. Seattle’s narrow defeat shouldn’t diminish its standing as a legitimate contender, while Minnesota continues to build an increasingly impressive undefeated campaign.

Further down the rankings, Jacksonville and Baltimore are beginning to establish themselves, while Chicago faces important questions after its disappointing defeat to Green Bay.

The arrivals of New England and Denver also demonstrate how quickly the NFL landscape can change. One impressive performance can put a team on the map, while one disastrous outing can send another tumbling out of the rankings.

With plenty of football still to play, these rankings are far from settled.
