The Los Angeles Rams pulled off a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 24–20 after trailing by 10 points entering the final quarter.
Philadelphia led 20–10 despite struggling to move the football for much of the afternoon, but the Rams continued to hang around. Eventually, Los Angeles’ offensive advantage finally showed up on the scoreboard.
Kyren Williams scored two touchdowns in the final four minutes, including the game-winner with just 1:16 remaining, as the Rams completed the comeback and improved to 2–2.
First Quarter
Philadelphia opened the scoring with a 29-yard Jake Elliott field goal.
The Rams answered later in the quarter when Harrison Mevis connected from 40 yards, tying the game at three.
Neither offense was particularly explosive early, and the first quarter ended 3–3.
Second Quarter
Philadelphia began creating separation in the second quarter.
Elliott drilled a 56-yard field goal to put the Eagles back in front before Jalen Hurts connected with Darius Cooper for an 18-yard touchdown, extending Philadelphia’s advantage to 13–3.
Los Angeles finally found the end zone late in the half.
Puka Nacua took a carry for a two-yard rushing touchdown with two minutes remaining, cutting Philadelphia’s lead to 13–10.
But the Eagles responded immediately.
Hurts found Cooper again, this time for a 10-yard touchdown with nine seconds remaining in the half.
Philadelphia entered halftime with a 20–10 advantage.
Third Quarter
Neither team scored in the third quarter.
That was particularly frustrating for Los Angeles because the Rams were moving the football far more effectively than Philadelphia.
The Rams continued piling up yards, but turnovers and missed opportunities prevented them from turning that production into points.
Philadelphia entered the fourth quarter still holding a 20–10 lead.
Fourth Quarter
Then everything changed.
With 4:02 remaining, Williams scored from one yard out to cut Philadelphia’s lead to 20–17.
Suddenly, the pressure was entirely on the Eagles.
Los Angeles got another opportunity, and the Rams completed the comeback with just 1:16 remaining. Williams broke through for a seven-yard touchdown, giving LA its first lead since the opening stages of the game at 24–20.
Philadelphia still had enough time for one final drive.
But the Eagles offense couldn’t get anything going.
Hurts was sacked twice on Philadelphia’s final possession, and his fourth-down pass fell incomplete with 14 seconds remaining.
Stafford took a knee.
Game over.
The Rams Dominated the Numbers
The final score was close.
The actual production wasn’t.
Los Angeles finished with 414 total yards compared with only 172 for Philadelphia. The Rams ran 77 offensive plays to Philadelphia’s 58 and held the football for 32 minutes.
Matthew Stafford finished 32-of-51 for 316 yards. He threw two interceptions and didn’t record a passing touchdown, but Los Angeles continued moving the football throughout the afternoon.
Puka Nacua was excellent, catching nine passes for 125 yards while also scoring the Rams’ first touchdown on the ground.
Williams was everywhere.
He rushed 16 times for 80 yards and two touchdowns while adding 10 receptions for another 66 yards. That’s 146 yards from scrimmage, and both of his rushing touchdowns came when the Rams desperately needed them in the fourth quarter.
What Happened to Philadelphia’s Offense?
Philadelphia somehow scored 20 points despite producing only 172 total yards.
Hurts completed just 12 of 27 passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns.
That’s simply not enough offensive production.
The Eagles averaged only three yards per play and never scored in the second half. Their defense kept them in control for most of the afternoon, but eventually the inability to sustain drives caught up with them.
Cooper was responsible for both Philadelphia touchdowns, catching three passes for 33 yards and two scores.
Philadelphia also struggled on the ground. Tank Bigsby led the team with 55 yards on 14 carries, while Hurts was limited to 18 rushing yards.
For an offense with this much talent, 172 total yards is unacceptable.
Final Thoughts
The Rams deserved this win.
They outgained Philadelphia by 242 yards, controlled possession and consistently moved the football despite repeatedly hurting themselves with turnovers and penalties.
For three quarters, it looked like those mistakes were going to cost them.
Then Williams took over.
Two touchdowns in the final four minutes completely flipped the game and gave Los Angeles a huge road victory.
Philadelphia, meanwhile, has some serious questions to answer offensively. The Eagles were held scoreless throughout the entire second half and couldn’t produce even 200 total yards.
You aren’t going to consistently win NFL games playing offense like that.
Final: Rams 24, Eagles 20.
Both teams move to 2–2, but they leave this game feeling completely different about where they stand.
