Simply put: yes.
I believe Lewis Hamilton will win his eighth Formula 1 World Championship before he is all said and done.
Technically, I already believe he should have eight after what happened in Abu Dhabi in 2021. In my view, Lewis got jobbed that night. But officially, the record books still have him sitting on seven championships, tied with Michael Schumacher, and I believe Lewis will eventually get the eighth title that has escaped him since 2021.
For me, Lewis is already the greatest Formula 1 driver to ever grace the track. The numbers only strengthen that argument: seven World Championships, 106 Grand Prix victories, 104 pole positions, and 207 podium finishes. He holds the Formula 1 records for wins, poles, and podiums. At some point, the résumé becomes almost comical.
I’ve also never subscribed to the idea that whoever has the most championships automatically has to be the GOAT. There is far more that goes into judging a driver than simply counting trophies.
But let’s be real: having the record all to yourself is an excellent way to shut an argument down.
And I think Lewis wants that eighth championship for exactly that reason. After everything that happened in 2021, getting back to the top and becoming the first eight-time World Champion would completely set the record straight in his mind.
Is No. 8 Coming in 2026?
I don’t think so.
That doesn’t mean Lewis hasn’t shown that he can still compete at the very front. Through the first 11 Grands Prix of 2026, Hamilton sits second in the World Championship with 169 points, having already collected one victory and five Grand Prix podiums without a single DNF.
After four difficult seasons following that heartbreaking 2021 championship battle, we’re beginning to see a revitalized Lewis Hamilton.
But I don’t believe Ferrari is quite ready to deliver him a championship-winning package this season.
If I had to make a prediction, I’m looking at 2027.
Ferrari will have another full season to understand and develop around this generation of regulations. They’ll have more data, more development time, and another year of understanding exactly what Lewis needs from the car to perform at his absolute best.
And that’s where things could get scary.
Lewis spent four difficult years after 2021 with victories becoming far rarer than we had grown accustomed to during his dominant years. But I believe these regulations are better suited to his driving style, and he’s beginning to make the most of them.
A motivated Lewis Hamilton is dangerous.
A revitalized Lewis Hamilton with a Ferrari genuinely capable of fighting for a World Championship?
That might be one of the scariest things the rest of the grid could possibly see.
Lewis has been chasing that eighth championship since 2021. He’s already achieved virtually everything there is to achieve in Formula 1, but I don’t believe his story ends without one more legitimate shot at history.
And when that opportunity comes, I’m betting on Lewis.
My prediction: Lewis Hamilton becomes an eight-time Formula 1 World Champion in 2027. 🐐🏎️🏆
